Justin T. Beebe, Director of Bands, Hickory High School

Mr. Beebe is a graduate of Western Carolina University, where he earned a Bachelor of Music degree and a Bachelor of Science Degree in education.  He studied under Dr. Travis Bennett, professor of horn at WCU, and student taught under Steve Sigmon, Director of Bands at North Henderson High School and immediate past-president of the Western North Carolina District Bandmasters Association.

Mr. Beebe began his professional teaching career in Wilkes County, where he served as the Band Director at North Wilkes Middle School and North Wilkes High School.  Under Mr. Beebe's direction, the North Wilkes High School Concert Band earned consecutive “Superior” ratings at the NC Music Performance Assessment, including its first in school history.  Additionally, the 2016 North Wilkes “Viking Pride” Marching Band was undefeated in Class A competition under Mr. Beebe’s direction.

Mr. Beebe has been playing the horn since the age of 11.  He has performed at the International Horn Competition of America and was named a finalist at the Southeast Horn Workshop Collegiate Solo Competition in 2013.  That same year he was also a winner of the WCU Concerto competition and performed with the WCU Wind Ensemble as a featured soloist.

Mr. Beebe has performed with various professional and community ensembles, including the Asheville Symphony Orchestra, the Asheville Lyric Opera, the Southeast Collegiate Honor Horn Choir, the Tuckaseegee Brass Quintet, the WCU Artist-In-Residence Orchestra, the WCU Wind Ensemble and others.

In 2014, Mr. Beebe served as the High Brass Caption Coordinator for the WCU “Pride of the Mountains” Marching Band.  The band performed at the 2014 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade and was the largest band in the history of the event, boasting over 500 members.

Mr. Beebe is also active as a composer and arranger.  He has written several custom wind arrangements for marching bands, including our own Marching Tornadoes!  His original works have been performed by ensembles at both the high school and collegiate level.

Mr. Beebe has also presented twice at the National Conference on Undergraduate Research.

Mr. Beebe is the recipient of the North Carolina Teaching Fellows Scholarship, the WCU School of Music Outstanding Sophomore Award, the School of Music Outstanding Junior Award, the WCU Honors College Distinguished Achievement Scholarship, the Pop Goodson Scholarship for Music Educators, and the WCU College of Fine and Performing Arts Rising Senior Scholarship.  In 2015, Mr. Beebe was a finalist for the Maxie Beaver Award for Excellence in Music Education.

In addition to his post as Director of Bands at Hickory High School, Mr. Beebe also serves as the Director of Music and Worship Arts at Greenway Baptist Church in Boone, NC.

Mr. Beebe resides in Lenoir, NC with his wife Katelyn, who is a practicing Board-Certified Music Therapist.

Tammy Reyes, Director of Bands, Grandview Middle School

I am a graduate of Mooresville High School and UNC-Charlotte.  I have been a NC Music Educator since 1999, and have taught band in the Hickory Public Schools since January of 2008.  I left the band director position at Hickory High School to become the band director at Grandview Middle School in 2014.  All three band directors in HPS work as a team, and both middle school directors fully support the Hickory HS Band Program.

I LOVE being the band director at Grandview Middle School.  It is an honor to watch students flourish on an instrument from the very beginning of their band careers.  We utilize many assistants in our band room at Grandview.  We bring in folks to give individualized attention in areas of brass, woodwind, percussion, and jazz.
